Locating in InfoLab21

Award-winning Business Space

InfoLab21 contains some of the most sought-after modern business facilities in the country for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as larger ICT businesses.

Shortly after its official opening the building won the national British Council for Offices Best Corporate Workplace prize - the first time that a university building has won the award.

"This research centre makes a bold and unusual statement: a beacon to attract top class ICT firms to come and partner University staff in a showpiece for the region, as well as for the University campus." - British Council for Offices judge's comment

Flexible Accommodation

Units range in size from 10 to 90 square metres enabling businesses to co-locate alongside Lancaster University's internationally prominent knowledge base and work in partnership with Lancaster-based technologists to develop new products and processes.

The KBC has built a flexible, mixed portfolio of working scenarios, for example, companies can be entirely based in the KBC, base their Research and Development in the building and some even work 'virtually' with KBC from their offices off campus.

The KBC business space is targeted at technology based companies with the ability to grow through access to cutting-edge research.

A Growing ICT Community

Our resident companies are assessed against a range of criteria, with input from Lancaster University Management School as well as technical specialists from within InfoLab21.

The early years for any business are difficult and the problems they face can be numerous and varied, which is why a supportive environment can significantly increase a company's chances of survival. As well as developing collaborative partnerships with ICT companies across the Northwest and beyond, InfoLab21 provides specialised support for its own cluster of companies, and links them with other University departments where relevant.

Businesses that have taken up residency in the KBC range from software developers to networking specialists and search engine specialists. Some of these companies were formed with assistance from the University and involve graduates and academics.
