Lancaster University Certificates

In partnership with the departments of Computing and Continuing Education, ICT Focus have developed a suite of courses covering systems administration and network engineering:

Network and Systems Administration (NASA)
An in-depth overview of the practical issues involved in administering a system or network, including network infrastructure essentials, operating system essentials, network services, security and resource availability, as well as introductions to web services, printing and troubleshooting and the data protection act.
Cisco Networking Technologies
Designed to provide a deep understanding of the practical issues involved in the design and implementation of modern multi-service data networks. This course examines the theoretical background behind the technologies involved in network systems and then reinforce this knowledge through practical work. Great emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of industry engineering best practice. The certificate curriculum has been aligned with that of the Cisco Network Academy, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Programme. As such, successful students may be able eligible to complete the CCNA professional qualification.
Microsoft Technologies
Aimed at IT Professionals who are working with Microsoft Technologies and who want an in-depth understanding of the systems and how they can develop and maintain reliable, efficient networked systems. The curriculum builds upon the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) core curriculum, so that successful students should have the knowledge and skills required to complete the Microsoft Certified Professional exams, and will at the same time have experience of applying their skills within the workplace.
Advanced Systems Administration
Designed to follow on from NASA but can also be taken by those with some experience of systems administration. You will be able to select from modules covering: Installing and Configuring Windows 2000 Professional and Server, Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix metaframe, Database administration and SQL Server, Disaster Recovery, Client Server Mail Systems and Exchange, Client Deployment and desktop configuration strategies, Securing Internet Access and Microsoft ISA Server, or Supporting Web Services using IIS and Apache.
Advanced Network Engineering
Designed to follow on from NASA but can also be taken by those with some experience of working with networks. You will be able to select from modules covering: Routing and the Global Internet, Scripting for Networks, Network Management and Core Services, Multimedia Networks, Introduction to IPv6, Wireless and Mobile Networking, Advanced Scripting for Networks, Advanced Network Security and Remote Access.
