InfoLab21/Daresbury Networking a Success

The Knowledge Business Centre hosted a unique networking event this month which has received very positive feedback from those attending. The event allowed resident and associate Digital/ICT companies of the Knowledge Business Centre at InfoLab21 to meet with visitors and companies from the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus. Attendees heard first hand the developments in computational science at each of these UK-leading campuses.

Vmail First For Resident Company NuBlue

NuBlue Digital Web Solutions based in InfoLab21 have become first UK hosting company to provide video webmail using a simple browser interface. The service is ideal for home workers who can use it for business communication - putting a 'face to the name', without the need for expensive and time-consuming travel to meetings.

Radio Lancashire 'School Trip' to InfoLab21

Radio Lancashire brought an 'unusual' school trip to InfoLab21 last Month. The trip was organised by the radio station after a number of their listeners expressed a desire to go on a school trip having missed out on the chance in their own school days.

Lancaster Hosts Big Event for Small Systems

Delegates from the world of Micro and Nanosystems Engineering came to Lancaster University last month. They came to attend an international showcase examining cutting edge developments in their field.

Design Award For InfoLab21 Building

InfoLab21 has been chosen as one of the best buildings in the district by the Lancaster Design Awards panel. More than 70 buildings were nominated by members of the public, a short list was then visited by members of the panel.

Business Opportunities from LU Management School

Family Business Seminar

Invitations are extended for this event to active NW family businesses, which will bring together a small number of family business researchers and business owners. The aim is to challenge our understanding and build on what was learned from a previous event.

Marketing

It is estimated that lack of marketing or poor marketing accounts for the failure of 38.1% of SMEs in the UK. The fresh* marketing course has got a proven track record of working (over 100 hundred companies to date all with success stories). The workshops are given by industry leaders in their respective fields, meaning that each space on the course should cost approximately £1,000 but if you are eligible it’s completely free.

Workshops are available on Thursday 29th November, 5th and 12th December, 8.30 am – 4.30 pm at Lancaster University Management School.

Could You Help With Talks or Projects on Statistics?

Lancaster University Department of Mathematics and Statistics are seeking external speakers to give their MSc students a broader view of statistics in various fields, followed by a summer project involving real data analysis. If you would be interested in giving a talk about interesting work that involves statistical knowledge, in recruiting statisticians, or would be interested in developing a small project please contact juhyun.park@lancaster.ac.uk. The course runs from 14 Jan. 2008 for 5 weeks and Fridays are designated to external talks.

Flying Start For Businesswomen

Women of any age who are current final year students, recent graduates, or post-graduates, (within the last 10 years) have until 21st November to submit their application for the first national Flying Start Programme for Women. The programme includes all the support and training needed to turn any idea into a business within 12 months and is also open to those who have just started trading within the last 6 months.

Futuresonic 2008 - Call for Submissions

Proposals for talks, presentations, workshops and session themes are invited for the Futuresonic 2008 conference. The theme is ''The Social - Online, Mobile and Unplugged Social Networking'. Submissions of innovative formats for social interaction and experimentation are encouraged. Deadline for conference submissions - 5pm 18th December 2007.
