The Storey Creative Industries Centre is a new development due to open in March 2009. With partners LitFest, Storey Gallery, and Lancaster Visitor Information Centre already confirmed as tenants, Storey is also offering permanent workspace to multimedia, creative and digital arts companies.
InfoLab21 has launched an online JobShop, which puts computer-savvy students and businesses in touch, keeping much-needed skills in the region. The ICT JobShop aims to help Lancaster ICT students and employers in the region find each other for part-time work, project work, vacation work and graduate positions.
Management Consultant Giant Mott MacDonald will be working with researchers from the Computing Department in InfoLab21, ImaginationLANCASTER in LICA, and from the Department of Politics and International Relations in a new Strategic Partnership with Lancaster University.
InfoLab21 researchers Dr. Nick Race, Dr. Keith Mitchell & Dr. Johnathan Ishmael , have been involved in introducing a cutting-edge peer-to-peer video distribution system at this year's International Broadcast Convention (IBC 2008) in Amsterdam, as part of the P2P-Next project. The new system is the world's first video end-to-end streaming distribution of professional content to low-cost Set Top Box hardware. InfoLab21 was acting as the source of the video streams on show.
Lancaster University has been shortlisted for its Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology at the forthcoming Times Higher Education Awards 2008. This is in recognition of both the Lancaster Environment Centre's and InfoLab21's business outreach programmes.
Lancaster University together with BAE Systems Military Air Solutions and Cranfield University have won two awards at The Engineer Technology and Innovation Awards 2008. The team at Lancaster University includes Principal Investigator Dr. Plamen Angelov, Prof. Costas Xydeas, D.r Cosmin Bocaniala , Mike Everett and Dr. Gavin Leng from the Digital Signal Processing Systems Group at the Department of Communication Systems at InfoLab21.
Prof. Jon Whittle from InfoLab21 was invited to give a Google TechTalk at Google Headquarters, California. Google TechTalks are invited presentations aiming to disseminate a wide range of views, both technical and non-technical. Prof. Whittle described current work within the Computing Department on Aspect-Oriented Modeling to an audience of Google engineers. The talk was filmed by Google and is available on YouTube:

A sustainability eco fair took place in Lancaster Town Hall last weekend and featured local companies including some from Lancaster University's Environment Centre. InfoLab21 company Escendency were also involved in managing the project. The One Planet Festival aimed to highlight issues surrounding climate change, inspire practical action to reduce our environmental footprint and to celebrate the diverse culture, produce and innovations of the Lancaster district. Following this year's success, the festival will return next year.
