Ethnographics Data Masterclass Attracts International Interest

John Rooksby and Marian Iszatt (leadership in Education) recently organised a workshop for PhD students wanting to learn more about how ethnographic fieldwork can support computing research in areas such as systems design.

Leading experts Barry Brown (Glasgow University) and Neil Jenkings (Newcastle University) were chosen to run the workshop not only because of their prestige in this field, but because they are themselves current active researchers who share similar issues, difficulties and targets with our PhD students.

The Masterclass attracted participants from as far afield as Melbourne and the day was an extremely positive experience for all, making the hard work put in by Marian and John very worthwhile. Lively discussion and valuable contributions were the order of the day and now this success has spawned ideas for future events running along similar lines.
