Call for 2nd/3rd Year Students Interested in 2012 Industrial Placements

The School of Computing and Communications together with the InfoLab21 Knowledge Business Centre (KBC) are currently launching an industrial placement and award scheme for students who have been performing well in their studies and are interested in gaining valuable experience working in industry.

"More than a third of jobs for new graduates are taken by people who have already gained some work experience with that employer. Those graduates with no work experience whatsoever have little or no chance of success in the job market, whatever their degree class." Article by Sarah Harris - Career Mail in the Daily Mail edition of Thursday 1st March, 2012.

Within this scheme you will be placed with a company or in the InfoLab21 Student Academy for at least 8 weeks.

In this time you will be involved in ICT projects in which you can apply the skills you have learned during your studies so far in an industrial setting. The placement will run after your exams from week 25 onwards. Students who gain a placement on this scheme will get a bursary of £1,600 (plus any potential out of pocket expenses).

Who can apply

All SCC students who have had at least a 2.1 in their previous accademic year and who have continuously performed well throughout their current year can apply.

The application is competitive and the best applicants amongst all students who applied are chosen to get onto the scheme.
