Science and Technology Taster Day 2013
Visiting sixth-form student takes part in a School of Computing and Communications session
180 year-twelve students from twelve Northwest schools took part in our annual Science and Technology Taster Day, getting a first look at what it's like to study a science or technology degree at a top UK university.
The students met current students and lecturers, and were given the chance to experience how their chosen subjects are taught at university level. A tour of Lancaster's campus gave them an insight into wider student life.
Professor Gordon Blower (Associate Dean for Undergraduate Teaching) welcomed the students to Lancaster University, and detailed the different formats of sessions available - from lectures, to practical sessions.

Sessions were available from all subjects across Science and Technology at Lancaster, and this year saw a new session from Computing and Communications, where students were able to build their own 'persistance of vision' display.
Other sessions included a fully interactive Physics session, exploring cutting-edge research and discussing its impact on technology and its benefits for society.
This was the ninth annual Science and Technology Taster Day, which continues to be successful in encouraging year-twelve students to study STEM related subjects.
Sixth form tutor at Ripley St. Thomas Church of England Academy, Nikki Mann, said: "As always, a very valuable day for our students who have found sessions enjoyable and informative. Staff and student helpers are all very friendly, helpful and efficient, and we look forward to next year".
