The Times Award
InfoLab21 was Lancaster University's entry for the Times Higher Education Institution of the Year Competition, the most prestigious of 14 awards that will be presented to successful institutions in November.
The competition was open to all Higher Education institutions in the U.K. and although research, teaching, access and business performance will be taken into account by the judges, the main criterion will be evidence of a particular bold, imaginative and innovative initiative that has advanced the institution's reputation between July 1 2004 and June 30 2005.
As InfoLab21 is a bold new international centre of excellence for research in ICTs, underpinned by the notion that academics and businesses can work alongside each other to significant mutual benefit, its innovative approach to research and technology transfer is expected to be noted by the judges.
The Knowledge Business Centre Incubation companies, projects like .:thePooch:., the support of students and regional schools and also the integration of business with Academia in order to create a culture of innovation and opportunity will all surely gain marks for InfoLab21.
