Paul Rayson, Roger Garside and Scott Piao are extending their corpus -based technology to assist human translators with English-Russian translation. Russian semantic tagging is now being tackled using the experience and techniques learnt with English and Finnish corpora.
In April the project gained £185,000 of EPSRC funding, and their new project ASSIST is now underway. The Linguistics Department are again playing an integral part, involving Tony McEnery, Andrew Wilson and Olga Mudraya (the native Russian linguist).
