Dr Plamen Angelov Receives Award for Outstanding Service
Dr Plamen Angelov from the School of Computing and Communications has received an award for Outstanding Service by IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and INNS (International Neural Network Society), the two leading professional organisations for researchers working in neural networks.
He received the award at IJCNN 2013, the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks in Dallas last month, which he also chaired. IJCNN is the premier international conference in the area of neural networks and was attended by over 500 people.
Dr Angelov also had the honour of presenting awards to many big names in neural research including Stephen Grossberg, the 'father'/inventor of ART neural networks; Terry Sejnowski who works on President Obama's BRAIN initiative (Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) which was compared to the Human Genome Project and the Moon Landing initiative; and Frank Lewis a Distinguished Professor at the University of Texas (UTARI) who received his IEEE Pioneer in Neural Networks Award for his work in bringing together optimal and adaptive control.
