InfoLab21 resident company makes national awards final for partnership with Lancaster

InfoLab21 resident company DemoPad Software Limited has been announced as a finalist in the Prospects Postgraduate Awards, Best Business Partner category, for their collaborative partnership with Lancaster University.

Nominated for the award by the university, DemoPad have hosted ten postgraduate placements and have undertaken a three year collaborative research project with the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation.

There are eight categories of the national Prospects Postgraduate Awards, which showcase excellence and innovation in the postgraduate education sector.

Demopad is a high-tech business that has become recognised as one of the most highly qualified smart home businesses. The Best Business Partner category celebrates successful collaborations between employers and institutions working together to ensure postgraduate courses meet the needs of the business community, and is awarded to employers that demonstrate a cohesive and integrated approach to employability, bridging the gap between education and industry.

DemoPad have taken on ten postgraduates on placements, employed one graduate full-time, and were selected to be one of the 50 businesses to benefit from the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation's three year funded collaborative PhD projects. Their PhD project, called Eco@Home, is a new piece of equipment to be used within homes that will allow occupants to reduce their energy consumption, and will result in a market-leading product that has high potential for export to markets such as the United States.

These links were one of the key motivators for us to take up residency within the university's School of Computing and Communications at InfoLab21.

Therefore they gain more experience of putting their knowledge into action, which is very desirable for employers. In particular, the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation allows the postgraduate to undertake a central role in a real-world and business-critical product development." The Centre for Global Eco-Innovation is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund and unites the expertise, resources and global contacts of Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, together with international commercialisation consultancy Inventya Limited.

The winners of the awards will be announced on the 19th of November at a ceremony in Manchester. Lancaster University is also a finalist in the Best International Campaign category.
