The School of Computing and Communications at Lancaster ranked 12th in the UK for Research
The School of Computing and Communications at Lancaster has continued to establish itself as a top institution for high quality research, ranked 12th in the UK for Computer Science and Informatics research in REF 2014.
The School also had 91% of its research classified in the top two categories, placing it 7th in the UK for world-leading and internationally excellent research.
The impact of the School’s research was also recognised by REF 2014, with 100% of Lancaster's Computer Science research deemed to be in the top two categories of 4* and 3* for reach and significance.
Head of the School Professor Jon Whittle said: “I am extremely pleased to hear that our dedication to the research of real-world problems has been recognised in REF 2014. Being ranked 7th in the UK for world-leading and internationally excellent research really highlights the dedication of all our staff.
“Furthermore, achieving such high recognition for the originality, significance and impact of our work is a proud reflection of our shared ethos to undertake challenging research that matters. I would like to thank all the members of staff who helped us achieve this result, with special thanks to Professor Hans Gellersen who worked tirelessly to develop and refine our REF submission.”
