Content Networking Workshop - Watch Now
Presentation slides and videos of the InfoLab21 Industry Workshop on Trends in Content Networking are now available online
The workshop, organised by the Computing Department, was very well received and there were lively and interesting discussions during and after the session.
Attendees included local SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises) and the BBC.
The workshop was part of a series of workshops within the European Network of Excellence CONTENT (IST-FP6-0384239); www.ist-content.eu and addressed technical issues arising from Content distribution over the Internet.
It was specifically concerned with a number of (technical) risk factors, e.g. related to platform choices, lack of quality of service provisions, and lack of accounting mechanisms within the current set-up. In order to avoid the pitfalls caused by these and other risk factors it is therefore important to keep up with the latest developments and technical trends in Internet based content distribution.
The goal of the workshop was to introduce the latest research results in the area of content networking and to familiarise the participants with the progress made in various related areas.
A particular emphasis was on industry relevant aspects such as quality of experience (QoE) and user perception in content delivery, exploiting peer-to-peer based technologies for more efficient content provision, and accounting in peer-to-peer based content distribution systems.
In the workshop the participants had a chance to learn about opportunities and developments in the content networking and delivery domain. It also provided a platform for discussions amongst the participants and with the European experts on technical and practical issues. The workshop was enhanced by demonstration in which some of the research could be viewed in action
