InfoLab21 Strengthens Links With Top Malaysian University

InfoLab21 is developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with one of the most significant Universities in Malaysia, the University of Malaysia, Sabah (UMS).
Prof. Garik Markarian and Prof. Bahram Honary, from InfoLab21's Department of Communications Systems, were warmly received by the Director and members of the University's Centre of Materials & Minerals (CMM), School of Engineering and Information Technology when they visited its Advanced Telecommunication and Network Research Lab (ATNR) this summer.
The UMS was established on November 24, 1994. There are currently 13 schools and 9 research institutes in UMS. The aim of the trip was to review research parallels, strengthen the relationship between InfoLab21 and the UMS and foster research and postgraduate study collaborations.
The Advanced Telecommunication and Network Research Lab (ATNR) is a research group that combines the expertise from Electrical and Electronics, System & Network Management and Computer Engineering programs. They operate under the Centre of Materials & Minerals (CMM), School of Engineering and Information Technology. Their work is funded by the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MoSTI) under the e-Science grants and Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) under the Fundamental Research Grant Schemes (FRGS).
InfoLab21 and the Advanced Telecommunication and Network Research Group share a research focus on Information and Communication Systems and in particular, expertise in telemedicine and wireless sensor networks (WSN).
ATNR reported "It was a very fruitful discussion and visit and we are now in the process of doing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with InfoLab21."
Prof. Garik Markarian, Head of the Department of Communication Systems, stated "The UMS were keen to hear about the existing developments at InfoLab21 and we look forward to working together on new projects."
Prof. David Hutchison, Director of InfoLab21, added "Internationalisation is a top priority for Lancaster University and this connection with the University of Malaysia, Sabah will be a valuable addition to the work of InfoLab21."
