Double Big Chip Win For InfoLab21's EduNation

InfoLab21 resident company EduNation Ltd have won Best E-Business and Best in Lancashire at the 2008 Big Chip Awards for their website, First Tutors.

First Tutors is an online service with over 4,500 tutors providing private tuition nationwide.

Users can browse and select their preferred tutor in their chosen subject from their local area.

First Tutors is EduNation Ltd's first consumer website and is the UK's leading tutor-matching service. It is listed in The Good Schools Guide to parents as a recommended place to find a private tutor.

Big Chip judges summarised that EduNation Ltd used interactive technology to fill a clear need, bringing buyers and sellers together in a specialist sector in a trustworthy way. They were also impressed by the speed at which the business had grown.

The Big Chip Ten, the North West's premier digital industry awards, took place on May 22nd in Manchester.

This is the second major industry nod for EduNation Ltd in a month, as Managing Director, Anita Moss, was also a national finalist in the Blackberry Women and Technology Awards 2008 for Best Use of Technology by a Woman Under 30, also in recognition of First Tutors.

Relocation to InfoLab21

EduNation Ltd chose to relocate to Lancaster from Cambridge in recognition of the ICT skills available at Lancaster University.

The firm develops consumer sites and sites for local businesses and is based in InfoLab21, the world-class ICT research facility at Lancaster University which also houses the University's Computing and Communication Systems departments.

Technical Director, Paul Norman, born and bred in Lancashire, remarks, "Lancaster seemed like an obvious place to relocate given the wealth of technical expertise at the University. We are already benefitting from having moved our operations here."

Moving forward as a business EduNation Ltd looks forward to developing websites for local Lancashire companies. Anita Moss comments, "These nominations recognise the quality of our web development work and naturally we're delighted. We're very excited about now moving into applying our expertise to client solutions for local businesses."

EduNation Ltd is the second InfoLab21 company to win in the Best from Lancashire category after NuBlue won in 2006.
