I am a programmer with over 15 years experience on a range of research and commercial software developments.  Prior to working in Infolab21, I worked in computing research.  My current role involves consulting with companies to analyse their technology requirements. Once system requirements are finalised, I supervise members of the graduate team in the development, testing and deployment of the new software.

As a previous Graduate Academy member I have transferred from the development elements used when I was a Project Associate to the management side with my eventual career aspect aimed at larger scale project management in either IT centered environments or large scale construction. I felt that the post of ISIS Project Coordinator would grant me new skills and levels of experience in project management whilst still allowing me to use the skills I had already gathered in working with ERDF projects. My technical background has allowed me to evaluate each company accurately and provide regular infeed to both the student and graduate academies whilst helping me to develop my management, administration and evaluation skills in an environment that is well supported by a well balanced and hard working team.

I am an individual who is dedicated to work ensuring that each element I produce is done so to the best of my ability, a trait shared outside of work whereby I am a regular cricket player and coach with ECB recognized qualifications. I am athletic by nature and enjoy a number of sporting activities including squash and football as well as all the social aspects that accompany such endeavors.

As Project Technical Officer I am responsible for supervising and mentoring Project Associates and ensuring quality in the delivery of projects to clients. My skills and experience are varied, ranging from bespoke development through to research-based work, ICT appraisals and systems and networking advice.

I have worked in roles providing technology guidance and support to businesses for more than 10 years; I have been an enthusiastic programmer and computing advocate for longer. I hold current Microsoft certifications, and have recently graduated from a Foundation Degree in Network and Systems Engineering that I studied with ICT Focus here at InfoLab21. My work-related interests include free and open-source software, information security and continued learning. I also like to keep up to date with current news and developments in the technology arena.

I joined the KBC in January 2006 after completing my part-time PhD studies at InfoLab21’s Computing Department in Reflective Middleware with the Next Generation Middleware Group. Since then, I have helped set up and run the InfoLab21 Student Academy which primarily offers regional Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) an opportunity to leverage the academic and student resource within InfoLab21’s School of Computing and Communications. My role in the KBC involves technical supervision of the students in order to ensure all agreed deliverables such as ICT solutions, products, services, and infrastructure are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard.

Before joining the KBC, I worked in industry for two years as a Systems Analyst with a leading multinational consumer goods manufacturer. I then joined the Computing Department where I worked on a number of EU funded projects as a Researcher for a period of five years.
