Personal Information
The Knowledge Business Centre is a fantastic outlet to gain experience in interacting with businesses and provides me with a way of applying my skills practically. This experience will be invaluable upon completion of my studies and give me a distinct advantage when seeking employment.
I have broad experience of delivering courses to a wide range of audiences with varying technical abilities. I am a strong believer that by running these courses, if at least one person is inspired to pursue a career in this industry, that it has been worthwhile!
My PhD thesis focused on the anchors between physical and digital worlds, and I have completed a range of projects which demonstrate this concept. One of these projects, Big Game Huntr, won the prestigious award of most innovative application in the Adobe Flash Lite Developer Challenge.
After 8 years at Lancaster I have now reached the end of my studies and have recently been offered a job working for the BBC as a Junior Software Engineer in Mobile Platforms. Due to their relocation to MediaCityUK there is demand for new talent in the northwest, and therefore they were the perfect employer for my skills set. Working with the KBC was invaluable in demonstrating my experience when it came to interviewing for this position. I would certainly recommend future students at Lancaster to get involved with the team at the KBC, to build up a practical portfolio that will ultimately be instrumental in improving their career prospects.
